Emergency Response Fountain

Phase II Submission Requirements

 

A. Engineering Drawing(s): the “guts” of your fountain (10 Points)

  1. Create at least one drawing highlighting the technical aspects of the design. It should illustrate how the fountain functions and the technical specs for your category.
  2. Technical Specs: Include dimensions, materials, minimum flow rate, filtration/treatment capabilities, disinfection information.
  3. Up to 3 technical drawings may be submitted.
  4. Create drawing(s) by hand or use professional software such as AutoCAD or Adobe Photoshop. Final drawing(s) must be submitted as a PDF.

B. Fountain Design Drawings (10 Points)

  1. Create at least one artistic rendering showing the exterior of your fountain.
  2. Design will be judged on the overall visual presentation and design features (i.e. portability, etc.) that allows the fountain to be used for emergency response.
  3. Up to 3 artistic drawings may be submitted.
  4. Create drawing(s) by hand or use professional software such as AutoCAD or Adobe Photoshop. Final drawing(s) must be submitted as a PDF.

C. Written Narrative (15 points)

Organize your written narrative using the following categories:

  1. Design function (maximum 500 words, excluding list of data sources, 5 points)
    • How will your design function? Summarize your concept including relevant materials needed, type of technologies used and the data gathered from relevant sources (including interviews, web sites, books, literature, etc.).
    • Did you consider water recycling? Filters?
    • Is your design portable?
    • Can the system be adjusted to specific water quality concerns?
    • Does it have universal or adaptable plumb connections?
    • How does the design address Safe Drinking Water Act standards?
    • Is the design compliant with the American with Disabilities Act?
  2. Anticipated impact on emergency response situations(maximum 500 words, 5 points)
    • Provide examples of specific emergency response situations design may be used for.
    • Discuss the anticipated impact for emergency response agencies.
    • Did you consider battery backup, solar recharge or other off-grid solutions (e.g. UV for sterilization)?
    • Can system be easily maintained?
  3. Cost Analysis (maximum 1000 words, 5 points)
    • What is the estimated cost of the design and cost for annual maintenance?
    • Include estimated cost of the design, materials and equipment, annual maintenance and estimated installation costs.

D. Overall Proposal Review (15 points)

  1. Creativity & Innovation (5 points): New and unique idea(s).
  2. Writing Clarity & Organization (5 points): Submission very well written and information well organized. Information presented in logical format that is easy to follow and understand.
  3. Interdisciplinary Team (5 points): Team made up of students from a variety of disciplines.
